Who Is Aaditi Pohankar?
Aaditi Pohankar is a trained theatre actor who became a recognised face of Indian streaming. Her first big screen success came with the Marathi action film Lai Bhaari, where she played a villain. Her wider fame came in 2020, when Imtiaz Ali cast her as the lead in She, and Prakash Jha cast her as a young wrestler in Aashram.
She works across Hindi, Marathi and Tamil. That range is rare for an actress who had no film-industry connections when she started.
Aaditi Pohankar Age in 2026
She was born on 31 December 1994, so she is 31 as of October 2026. Her 32nd birthday falls on the last day of this year.
Growing Up Between Race Tracks and Riyaaz
Aaditi grew up in Mumbai in a house where sport and music both mattered. Her father, Sudhir Pohankar, is a former marathon runner who has also acted in plays. Her mother, the late Shobha Pohankar, played hockey at national level. Aaditi has spoken in interviews about losing her mother. The year is not publicly known.
The artistic side comes from the wider family:
| Relative | Connection |
|---|---|
| Sudhir Pohankar | Father, former marathon runner, stage actor |
| Shobha Pohankar (late) | Mother, national-level hockey player |
| Nivedita Pohankar | Sister, writer at Prithvi Theatre |
| Makarand Deshpande | Brother-in-law, actor and theatre director |
| Susheela (Sushila) Pohankar | Grandmother, Kirana gharana classical vocalist |
| Ajay Pohankar | Uncle, Hindustani classical vocalist |
So Aaditi’s world was track meets in the morning and classical music at home. Acting was not on her mind until her late teens.
Education: Commerce Degree, Theatre Classroom
Aaditi Pohankar studied commerce and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from National College in Bandra, Mumbai. Her real training happened outside the lecture hall. As a teenager she attended workshops run by the late Satyadev Dubey, one of Indian theatre’s best-known teachers. Makarand Deshpande later became her mentor.
In school and college she was a serious sprinter. She represented Maharashtra and won medals in the 100-metre and 200-metre races. She has said that this athletic background helped her relate to characters who push against limits.

Lai Bhaari: The Villain Who Got Noticed
Director Nishikant Kamat saw her in Makarand Deshpande’s play Time Boy. He called her for two days of screen tests and cast her opposite Riteish Deshmukh in Lai Bhaari (2014). She played Nandini, a negative character, and reviews praised the performance. The film became one of the highest-grossing Marathi films.
Tamil Debut

She: Why People Search “She Movie”
Many viewers search for “She movie”, but She is a Netflix series, not a film. It released in March 2020, with Imtiaz Ali as writer. Aaditi played Bhumika, a quiet police constable who is pushed into a dangerous undercover job to trap a drug lord, played by Vijay Varma. Critics noted how she let Bhumika’s confidence grow slowly through the story. A second season followed in 2022.
She has said that her own family felt she was nothing like the older, married Bhumika. She still won the role, which she often calls her turning point.
Aashram: Pammi’s Long Arc
Aashram began on MX Player in August 2020. Aaditi plays Pammi, a young wrestler who is first drawn to the self-styled godman Baba Nirala (Bobby Deol) and later turns against him. She trained with wrestler Sangram Singh for the part. Season 3 came in two parts, in 2022 and February 2025. In Aashram, Pammi is among the most talked-about character arcs on Indian streaming.
Star (2024): Her Tamil Comeback
Fans also search for “Star movie” and “Star 2024”. Star is a Tamil romantic drama written and directed by Elan, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It released in theatres on 10 May 2024. Kavin plays Kalai, a young man who dreams of becoming an actor. Aaditi and Preity Mukhundhan play the two female leads opposite him. The film earned an estimated ₹17 crore net in India in its first eleven days and later streamed on Prime Video in June 2024.
Mandala Murders and Ziddi Ishq (2025)
In July 2025 she appeared in YRF’s Netflix thriller Mandala Murders as Moksha, a fierce warrior character. She shared behind-the-scenes clips of the physical preparation.
In November 2025 she led JioHotstar’s Ziddi Ishq, a seven-episode romantic revenge drama. It is a Hindi remake of the Bengali film Parineeta, directed by Raj Chakraborty, with Parambrata Chattopadhyay as co-star. She plays Mehul, a woman whose one-sided love turns into obsession. Reviews were poor, but critics did not single out her performance as the weak point.

She also said she felt the matter was blown out of proportion and that she had been targeted. The issue ended once the dues were paid.
